Over the last 30 years, the proportion of women in technology has increased, the wage gap with men has narrowed significantly – or has been entirely eroded, and women are outperforming men across various sectors and industries. According to Prof. John Van Reenen (London School of Economics); ‘Technology has levelled the playing field’.

Nevertheless, women are still in a distinct minority in the technology workforce with an even smaller proportion of female executives having corporate leadership roles. Malta has made massive strides over the past three decades however we still have quite a long way to go to achieve better Gender Equality in the workplace.  Research indicates that profitability, innovation and Return on Investment all increase when women have senior positions within companies. These are a few of the many reasons why women’s career progression is imperative in today’s economy.

At ICON we’re committed to supporting Gender Equality and what better day than today: International Women’s Day 2016, to officially start our journey to obtain the Equality Mark Certification which is administered by the National Commission for the Promotion of Equality (NCPE).

ICON is fortunate to have a team of top-performing women within its work force that work together to innovate and deliver enabling technology solutions to our demanding clients. We are proud to showcase our female talent which relentlessly works to step up ICON’s game. These women are a positive response that shatters the common stereotype that coders and techies can only be male.

We believe that there are ample opportunities for technology careers in Malta and ICON will encourage and support the upcoming generation by providing meaningful female role models who are code heroes and technology mentors.

What is the Equality Mark?

The Equality Mark is a certification awarded to companies that make gender equality one of their values and whose management is based on the recognition and promotion of the potential of all employees irrespective of their gender and caring responsibilities.
