ICON on judging panel at Microsoft’s Imagine Cup

ICON has been invited to be on the judging panel at Microsoft’s Imagine Cup.

ICON has been invited to be on the judging panel at the prestigious Imagine Cup which was held at the Microsoft Innovation Centre Skyparks on 12th April 2013.  The Imagine Cup which is organised by IT giants Microsoft is an annual technology competition open to students from various countries in which they propose an IT programme with the main aim of solving one of the world’s most difficult problems.

ICON’s own Chief Technology Officer Mr Gareth Gauci was this year present on the Malta’s Imagine Cup judging panel.

<id=”subpage_text” style=”text-align: left;”>Representing the very best of IT professionals the judges picked the winning team to represent Malta in a worldwide event held in Russia whilst also competing for cash travel and networking opportunities in July.

Students were required to come up with a creative idea and drive to compete against other teams worldwide.

The winning team Phaid came up with a physiotherapy solution using an XBOX 360 Kinect sensor. The patient would be able to load the exercises provided by the physiotherapist onto the software and work out in front of the sensor which in turn will monitor balance repeats and angle of joints as well as having a digital trainer.

“Students participating in this competition manage to gain thorough exposure on both a national and international basis. It also provides them with the ideal environment to work within a team whilst turning their ideas into original solutions for worldwide problems ” said Mr Gauci.

Together with Microsoft and the Tech-Spark user group Gareth Gauci will also be organising a Windows Azure bootcamp aimed at Developers and IT professionals on April 27th at the Microsoft Innovation Centre Skyparks.

This is the ideal opportunity to learn more about Windows Azure by guiding you through the basics whilst also running a scalability experiment. Supported by developers from the Tech-Spark team Mr Gauci will be discussing his experience in delivering solutions with Windows Azure.
