Hello October!
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. Needless to say, 2020 has been a constant reminder to us all that we are all in this together. A reminder that our choices and actions have the power to protect the most vulnerable around us. The same holds true when It comes to breast cancer.
This October, ICON team contributed towards the campaigns and activities of Action for Breast Cancer Foundation that operates across Malta. The foundation was set up in 2007 by Helen Muscat and Esther Sant who first handed experienced the lack of services offered to patients diagnosed with breast cancer. Today the Foundation offers a one-stop-shop for all relevant information people might need, as well as free psychological services and a free brasserie to those who have undergone a mastectomy. But this is not all, they actively work towards strengthening everyone’s awareness on the danger of cancer and its repercussions on themselves and their loved ones.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many people decided not to undergo a routine screening this year. However, detecting breast cancer in early stages is crucial. Despite the unfortunate and challenging times we live in, it remains as important as ever.
